1   When in all respects ready for sea, but not later than 7 October 1952, proceed with your command to Norfolk., Virginia, in order to arrive not later than 8 October 1952, and upon arrival-complete the necessary logistic requirements in preparation for proceeding to the West Coast. By copy hereof, the Commander, 5th CG District, is requested to make the necessary arrangements with appropriate naval commands to expedite the movements of the DURANT while at Norfolk. The DURANT will advise the Commander, 5th CG District, of departure from the CG Yard and estimated time of arrival at Norfolk.

2.  The Commanding Officer, VANCE, is directed to depart Norfolk with his command not later than 11 October, 1952., and proceed via the Panama Canal to San Diego, California, in order to arrive not later than 1 November 1952, and upon arrival report to the Commander Western Area for assignment to refresher training for a period of two weeks with the Fleet Training Group, San Diego, California, commencing 3 November 1952. Upon completion of the refresher training and by copy hereof, the Commander Western Area, is requested to direct the Commanding Officer, VANCE,, to proceed with his, command to Honolulu, T.H. in order to arrive not later than, 26 November 1952, and upon arrival to report to the Commander, 14th CG District., for assignment to refresher training for a period of two weeks with the Commander, Fleet Training Group, Pearl Harbor, commencing 1 December 1952. Upon completion of the refresher training at Pearl Harbor, the Commander, 14th CG District., by copy hereof, is requested to direct the VANCE to proceed to Honolulu for assumption of regular station and duties.

3.  Operational control of the vessel and its movements on departure from the CG YARD, are vested in the Commander, 5th CG District, until reported departure from Norfolk. Thereafter, such control is vested in the Commander, Eastern Area, until reported arrival at Balboa, Canal Zone when such control shall be assumed by the Commander, Western Area.

4.  The Commanding Officer, VANCE should initiate correspondence with the Commander, 5th CG District, as early as practicable relative to degaussing and logistic arrangements at Norfolk and for procuring the VANCE's authorized allowance of ammunition in accordance with reference (a). If degaussing is not carried out at Norfolk, it shall be performed prior to departure from the Canal Zone.

5.  In accordance with the request contained in reference (b), the visit of the VANCE to Acapulco, Mexico, during the period of 23 October to 28 October, has been approved as set forth in reference (c). In conjunction with this visit attention is invited to reference (d).

6.  Communications shall be in accordance with enclosures (1) and (2)

7.  The expeditious movement of the subject vessel is required in conjunction with the establishment of the schedule to implement the search and rescue component of the military readiness program in the Pacific. The cognizant commands advised of the DURANT's movements by copy hereof, are requested therefore, not to divert the vessel from the orders set forth herein except in the event of distress or other such emergency
